A good idea then, a better idea today.
Too often we have overlooked election irregularies because they did not materially impact the outcome.
Nixon conceded to John Kennedy even though it was clear the corrupt political machine of Chicago under Mayor Richard Daley stole the election from Nixon. And we knew the consequences of this devil’s bargain, and the debt owed. A quote from Robert Kennedy reminds us of what is at stake when ignoring corruption.
We know the jokes that when you go to bed in a California election you better be ahead by at least six points or you will awake a loser. Or, we do not discriminate, we have a precinct in the cemetery with a voting record of 100%. Or, vote early, vote often.
Yet, there were kernels of truth in just this aspect of election fraud. Vote buying with a half-pint, or delivering a whole country “holler” to vote for one person. A piece of pencil lead under the finger which could deface or complete a ballot.
With that bit of dark history, I refer you to Bobby Kennedy’s quote. With the large, large numbers of irregularities discovered in this election in different states, both candidates should insist on an honest investigation. The people deserve it, and the republic requires it. Else, we are no longer a democratically elected republic.
So, do NOT be upset that there is a delay because of litigation. Errors occurred, and violators must be prosecuted to deter future games with the voters.
To say it bluntly, there is an appearance of impropriety.
And if you are ok with moving on and resort to name calling, shaming, or ignoring, then you need to do a little self-reflection and determine if you really want democracy or have a cabal running the show.
Be a patriot. Our forefathers gave their lives for your liberty and freedom. Do not squander for a passing election.
respect for life, no respect for borders or sovereignty, and no respect for flag or love of country coming from the Democratic Leadership and its elected officials.
Two years ago, I walked away. Today, I can only hope and pray a party with greater stature, greater leaders, greater balance and vision fills the void that has been left by what was formerly known as the Democratic Party. We need a two party system so that iron can sharpen iron.
