He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds

YouVersion picked a good verse for me today. Thought it would be a good share. God’s love overcomes grief and suffering IF we let it.

Seemed fitting in today’s chaos in the Middle East.  So needless.  So unnecessary.

Psalm 147:3 in the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) reads: “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” This verse speaks of God’s tender care and healing for those who are hurting. This theme of God’s loving and healing presence is echoed throughout the Bible, particularly in the New Testament, where the love of Christ is vividly demonstrated.

Here is a rabbit trail that I found – that illustrates Christ’s love, which is healing, sacrificial, and all-encompassing:

1. Romans 5:8 (CSB): “But God proves His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!” This verse demonstrates the depth of Christ’s love in that He gave His life even for those who were His enemies, offering redemption and healing to the spiritually brokenhearted.

2. John 13:1 (CSB): “Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” This passage shows the enduring nature of Jesus’s love, highlighting His commitment even unto death.

3. John 15:9 (CSB): “As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you. Remain in my love.” Jesus invites believers to continue in the love that He shares with the Father, indicating a love that is constant and nurturing, much like the healing love mentioned in Psalm 147:3.

4. Ephesians 5:2 (CSB): “And walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.” Here, Paul exhorts believers to emulate the love of Christ, which is selfless and healing, addressing the wounds of sin and separation from God.

5. 1 John 3:16 (CSB): “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” This verse encapsulates the ultimate demonstration of Christ’s love, his sacrifice on the cross, which is the source of spiritual healing for the brokenhearted.

These verses, in conjunction with Psalm 147:3, present a biblical picture of a love that is both tender and powerful, offering healing for the brokenhearted and bandaging for their wounds, exemplified supremely in the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
