A timeless quote from John Milton back in 1644 about the destruction of books. Book burning has been a tool of tyranny for some time so it seems. And it has been to lovers of liberty and freedom to resist.

“Who kills a man kills a reasonable creature . . . but he who destroys a good book, kills reason itself.”
The same goes for censorship which shrouds the mind in ignorance and buries many in fear.

What is further revealed is that “good” books are in the eyes of the reader as are “bad” books too. And both are entitled to exist in this world, and the people free to choose either to read.

However, the reader is not the final arbiter of “good” and “bad” books, but rather look to the establishment and other folks in charge or control (eg. Amazon) which picks which books can be purchased.

And when the elites take control, and the non-elites have no choice, then it is the beginning of the end and not the end of the beginning.

The new book burning by banning and censorship are even more devastating because it is witnessed by so many, with so few being concerned that their world is going back in time and accompanied by a recognition of pure powerlessness.

Jefferson is alleged to have said the following (or at least he thunked it and practiced it):
“An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.”
This destruction is fueled by zealots with the desire to silence the opposition. And so goes, liberty, freedom, and the marketplace of ideas and thought.
