Today’s Trundle hit me amid joy and worship while listening to a Christmas cantata at church this past Sunday. One song selection from Casting Crowns’ “Somewhere in Your Silent Night” touched a memory of pain. It reminded me that God is always near, even in our darkest moments. Even amid fellowship, there can be a bit of pain.
Somewhere in your silent night, Heaven hears the song your broken heart has cried.
Hope is here; just lift your head, for love has come to find you.
Silent nights often feel heavy. When pain and loneliness press in, believing God is far is easy. But Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He saves those crushed in spirit.” God is close. He does not abandon us in our pain.
John 1:14 declares, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus stepped into our silence, into our mess, bringing hope. His arrival on that first Christmas night was quiet but life-changing.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains.” Even in pain, He speaks. Sometimes through others. During the song, my spouse noticed my tears and hugged me. That small moment reminded me of God’s presence.
Oswald Chambers said, “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.” Faith isn’t always about clarity. It’s about trust. Christ came as a child to bring salvation, comes now through His Spirit to comfort, and will come again to restore.
When your silent night feels unbearable, know this: God is near. As the song says –
Hope is here; just lift your head, for love has come to find you.
Christ is with you, even in your darkest hours.
His Kingdom is always in our midst. But sometimes we lose sight of his promise of the Kingdom in each of us.
Let the silence draw you closer to Him. He fills it with His redeeming love and light.
